A DEMOCRACIA UNIDA APÓS A DESGRAÇA DA GUERRA

On October 25, 2022, the VII Presidential Dialogue was held with former heads of state of Spain and Latin America to analyze the main hemispheric and world events.

Miami Dade College hosted the meeting of the ex-presidents where the various problems that affect the countries of the hemisphere, after a pandemic and conflicts with a potential global scale, were put on the table. Rhino Equipment CEO, Javier Cárdenas, together with various business leaders were invited to this great event, considering the relevance of the business sector in terms of job creation and its essential role in economic recovery after the global health emergency.

A key highlight in Duque’s speech, in the first panel, was “The democracy in Latin America has faced serious threats in which we have seen how, through democracy itself, some people have come to power through discourses that seek to separate us”. At the same panel other former presidents participated, such as Ecuador ex-president, Jamil Mahuad, Bolivia ex-president Jorge Quiroga and Costa Rica ex-president Miguel Angel Rodríguez. 

In the second panel “Growing up in freedom: the west challenge”, was directed by the former Prime minister of Spain José María Aznar. In his speech, he talked about the importance of the intellectual, political and economical, that allow the opportunities and hope to reach the people who want to prosper. In this panel, other leaders participated, such as former president of Mexico, Vicente Fox, who talked about the importance of inspiring the next generation of leaders.

Issues such as food security, human rights and the effects of the conflict between the nations of Russia and Ukraine in the West, were the issues addressed by the former rulers in the framework of the VII Presidential Dialogue; making it clear that despite the hectic times that Western countries are going through, they continue to build a sustainable, resilient and equitable future.
