Rhino Equipment® Unveils the REX150 Excavator, Raising the Global Bar for Heavy Machinery

The new 15-ton Rhino® Excavator pairs hydraulic precision, fuel efficiency and a next-generation cab design, positioning the American manufacturer as a direct challenger to Caterpillar, John Deere and Komatsu in the global construction equipment market.

AMERICA — Rhino Equipment®, an American heavy machinery manufacturer with commercial operations across more than a dozen countries, today announced the official launch of the REX150 excavator, a 15-ton machine engineered for infrastructure work, controlled demolition, earthmoving and urban construction. The company is positioning the model as its most ambitious bid to date to take market share from the industry’s long-established leaders.

“Every machine that leaves our plants represents a commitment to the people who build the world every day,” said Javier Cárdenas-Moreno, President and CEO of Rhino Equipment®. “We are committed to the global development of this company and, above all, to the positive impact this machinery generates across critical infrastructure sectors worldwide. The REX150 is not just another product—it is proof that innovation and reliability can be built from an American brand with a global vision.”

Precision Engineering for Demanding Operations

The REX150 is powered by a turbocharged, four-cylinder Kubota V3800 direct-injection engine delivering 95 kW (127 HP) at 2,200 rpm, meeting Tier 2 emissions standards with optional Tier 3 and Tier 4 configurations depending on the destination market. Its open-center, load-sensing hydraulic system, built around two variable-displacement axial piston pumps that enables a level of force and speed control the company describes as comparable to flagship models from established competitors.

Among the figures the company highlights as technical differentiators are a bucket digging force of 115 kN, a maximum digging depth of 6.2 meters and a maximum reach of 9.2 meters. A dual-speed travel system, activated with a single on-dash button, combined with 11,000 kg of drawbar pull, round out a productivity profile built for demanding terrain.

The fully sealed cab, equipped with automotive-style climate control and a multifunction LCD monitor, was designed to reduce operator fatigue during long shifts, while short-throw pilot levers deliver finer control with less physical effort. A broken pipeline system, included as standard equipment, protects operations against hydraulic line failures—a safeguard historically reserved for premium-tier manufacturers.

An American Brand Competing in the Major Leagues

The REX150 launch arrives at a moment when the global hydraulic excavator market remains dominated by giants such as Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu and Hitachi. Rhino Equipment® is aiming to differentiate itself not only through competitive technical specifications, but through an after-sales support strategy, broad attachment availability—including hydraulic hammers, trenchers, augers and a wide range of buckets—and response times tailored to the needs of mid-size and large contractors across both emerging and developed markets.

“We know exactly who we are competing against,” Cárdenas-Moreno added. “Our goal is not to imitate the brands that have dominated this industry for decades, but to offer an alternative with the same level of technical rigor, backed by a company that understands the real needs of the people operating in the field—from mining to housing construction and public works.”

The company said the REX150 is already available for distribution across markets in Latin America, North America and other regions where Rhino Equipment® maintains operations, and that it will continue expanding its dealer and service network as part of its international growth strategy.
